George Emmanuel Kaylor
(pictured above) was born on September 8, 1838 in Catawba County, North Carolina. He was the son of Henry Kaylor and Elizabeth Herman and the grandson of early Lincoln County pioneer, George Kaylor. He was enlisted August 13, 1861, at Newton, North Carolina, by Captain Thomas L. Lowe and mustered into Company C, South Fork Farmers, 28th North Carolina Infantry, as 1st Corporal. He died of war related injuries on July 19, 1863, at Jordan's Springs, Virginia. His unit had been in action at Gettysburg and also in covering the crossing at Falling Waters. The loss of the 28th in these actions were 12 men killed and 92 wounded. George Kaylor's war record refers to him as a gallant soldier. See Kaylor History.

Lotberry was mentioned in George's letter, wanting his wife Harriett to send him some food. Lotberry Austin was my great great grandfather. My name is Jim Austin. If you have Kaylor family information on Lotberry or photos of them, I would much appreciate it.
